Education
We at the Wey & Arun love to see children of all ages enjoying themselves. There is nothing more exciting than to see a real lock being filled with water and the boats going up and down. The Trust also offers the following events specially designed for schools:
Special boat trips for schools. These can be booked on the 30-seater public trip boat (which includes a toilet) or the 12-seater boat. The price of the boat trip will depend on the length of the trip, two hours is usually the most children will want, with a short break to stretch legs. This usually takes place at a lock so that the children have a chance to investigate how a lock works. A guide in Victorian costume can also be booked (depending on availability because all the helpers are volunteers) and she can also provide worksheets for the children to do on board, and also a drawing competition with prize on the return journey. Our car park can accommodate coaches.
Books and a DVD about the history of the canal are available through mail order. Please see our 'Canal goods by post' section for further details. There are also drawing books with a canal theme for the very young as well as a range of 'Rosie & Jim' merchandise.
Brewhurst Mill is open for Heritage Open Days each year. This year 7th-10th September 2006. We would be happy to accommodate a small school party on a particular date and provide an experienced guide to explain the working of the mill.
