The Inland Waterways Association - founded 1946
The Inland Waterways Association believes that Britain's waterways are a valuable national asset, are of benefit
to all the community and should be available for everyone to enjoy.
Without the Association, inland waterways would not exist today. IWA continues to support restoration, to
campaign for the improvement of existing waterways, and to fight for the rivers and canals that are such
an important part of Britain's heritage.
In the Solent and Arun Branch we support the restoration of the Wey and Arun Canal and the Chichester Ship
Canal. We are backing the Shoreham Slipways campaign for a replacement public slipway for Ropetackle. We are
involved with the conservation of the Itchen Navigation structures, and the restoration of Botley Bark Store
and Parish Quay on the Hamble. We keep a watchful eye on other waterways, too, including the Titchfield Canal
and the Portsmouth and Arundel Canal.
Our campaign cruises aim to make practical and enjoyable use of the waterways of our area, drawing attention
to their beauty and to their challenges in a more public manner than private boating can.
If you have a canoe, rubber dinghy, small boat on a trailer, or can reach us with a larger boat, we look
forward to cruising with you.
