Press Release
WEY & ARUN CANAL WINS GRANT.

The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is delighted to announce that their successful bid for a Biffaward has been granted. The £50,000 comes at an appropriate time for the Trust as they commence the final stage of a £1.2million restoration project in Loxwood, West Sussex.

Treasurer Jim Phillips commented "This £50K grant comes as work begins on the Loxwood bridge/tunnel. It is particularly welcome in helping to meet the costs of the piling. The piles are needed for this important step forward in the Wey & Arun Canal's restoration"

Martin Bettington, Chairman of Biffaward, said "Biffaward is delighted to support Wey & Arun Canal Trust in safeguarding the crossing for pedestrians and cyclists by constructing a bridge/tunnel under the B2133."

The Wey & Arun Trust is now recognised as one of the leading canal restoration projects in the country. From just a few members in 1970, the Trust now has over 2400 members and is the third largest in the UK. With their continued reputation for successfully restoring lengths of the canal to a very high standard, using traditional methods, within budget and on time.

The Trust would like to record their appreciation to SEEDA (South East England Development Agency) for the 10% matching funds which supported the Trust's successful bid.
