The Wey & Arun Canal Trust is delighted to announce an important
breakthrough (literally!) in the crucial Loxwood road crossing project.
Tomorrow (Monday 2nd June) the Trust's contractors, CJ Thorne of Uckfield,
expect to join the excavated sections on the east and west sides of the
B2133 road, so reinstating a link that has been broken for more than 100
years. There is still a lot of work to do before the new bridge (technically
a tunnel because of its length) is ready for canal boats, but from tomorrow
its final shape should begin to become clear. The total cost of the B2133
crossing project is estimated at £1.5 million, which the Wey & Arun Canal
Trust has raised by its own efforts.
Please phone or e-mail me if you would like to visit the site on this
historic day. I am organising a small selection of photos to be made
available by Wednesday morning. My mobile no. is 07771 923368.
