The Onslow Arms in Loxwood became a magnet for steam enthusiasts over the
fine weekend of 13-14th September. On the Saturday, there were eight full
size steam engines at the show which filled the car park of the canalside
pub before setting off on a road run through Plaistow and Ifold. Meanwhile,
Amberley Working Museum demonstrated a steam-driven circular saw
effortlessly devouring large tree trunks.
The pub catered to the large
crowds with a hog roast, while the Wey & Arun Canal Trust laid on extra boat
trips from the wharf beside the pub. Proceeds from the event will benefit
the Wey & Arun Canal Trust's efforts to extend the navigable length of the
historic waterway linking the Thames to the sea.
Organiser Kate Russell said
"It was great to have such a superb range of exhibits. I was particularly
pleased to receive the support of Amberley Working Museum who kindly allowed
their Marshall 8-ton roller "Joan" to visit us for the weekend."
