BBC Filming for the Politics Show

A team from BBC South spent the morning of 18 May filming on the canal at Loxwood for the southern segment of The Politics Show. The programme, which goes out at midday every Sunday, will look at the impact of projects like the Wey & Arun Canal on tourism in the south.

Ian the cameraman got some beautiful shots from Josias Jessop travelling from the Onslow Arms down through Brewhurst and Baldwins Knob locks as far as Drungewick Aqueduct, and on the return journey Danielle Glavin, the presenter, interviewed John Wood about the canal's history, Eric Walker about the restoration, and Jeremy Watts answered questions about tourism. Afterwards the team were taken to Southland lock by Eric and Jeremy to show them how things were before we started.

Rosie Sugar and Jonathan Mitchell performed (respectively) skipper and crew duties; it proved a useful 'shakedown' for JJ, which performed well (apart from one small hitch when the propeller got fouled while winding, fortunately out of camera shot, though the cameraman's knife proved invaluable).

Don't miss the programme which is scheduled to go out on Sunday June 6, 2010 at 12:00. If you don't normally get BBC South, then satellite viewers can find it on channel 984 (Sky) or 961 (freesat), or you will be able to watch it on BBC iPlayer after transmission.
