Loxwood new Lock - 2

The scene on Sat 16 July. Two thirds of the reinforced concrete base has been poured.

A start has been made on building the lock chamber walls. The brickwork will be used as shuttering with the space between the back of the brickwork and the sheet piling being filled with concrete.

This view gives an idea of the thickness of the concrete base. The supporting timbers are standard '2x4's.

By Monday, July 18, the final base pour has been made.

Monday, July 18, 2005 and good progress is being made with the walls and the layout is beginning to be recognisable as a lock. The ladder recess is just to the left of the volunteer with the white hardhat.

Further towards the tail of the lock and the gap in the brickwork is where the lower gate recess will be.

Brick laying for the main lock chamber wall makes good progress, with the lower gate recess clearly visible. (Photo taken late afternoon on 21 July 2005) (Photo: Richard Emsley)
