The Wey & Arun Canal will now be providing some canal news and website update information as an RSS web feed. This RSS feed is an easy way to keep an eye on Wey & Arun Canal news and changes on the website as it happens.

What is RSS?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a system for feeding information to a news feed reading program or to your web browser. Each item in a news feed will will normally show a headline, a brief summary of the news item and a link to click if you want to read more about it.

How do I use RSS?

There are a number of ways to view news feeds:

  1. You can view news feeds with your web browser. For example, if you are using Firefox, you can use the easily-installed and very simple NewsFox add-on. Internet Explorer 7 has a built-in feed reader.
  2. You can view news feeds with your web browser using Google Reader (see below).
  3. You can install a separate news feed reader program. Some of these are listed here and here These sometimes have additional flexibility and can also be used with podcasts, blogs and newsgroups. Some are free; others need to be paid for.
  4. If you have a Yahoo account, you can set up My Yahoo so that it displays news feeds (see below).

When you have set up your feed reader, simply copy this address:

and paste it into the box for adding a new feed.

Other methods of subscribing to Wey & Arun Canal news feed: You may be able to drag the orange button above into your news feed program. Or clicking on the RSS logo will open a window in the browser inviting you to subscribe to the feed and giving you a list of readers to choose from.
